On December 23, Hi© eit' r council had been advised that Hunt liad received expert advice that the cliff in front of his place was not safe. In January there was a great deal of rain and a slip came down on a Sunday evening just after a tramcar •cl passed. It was claimed that the section was unfit to build upon at the present time. Mr. Treadwell added that, as an alternative:, if a satisfactory retaining vail were built bv the corporation and the original stability of the section restored. "Hunt would abandon the first part of the claim for compensation to the amount of £1450. Hunt would prefer to go back to the section because it was considered one of the finest residential sites in Wellington. The city corporation in its statement of defence denied the claim for compensation and offered claimant £IOO. After lengthy evidence had been taken the hearing was adjourned until to-morrow.
