BE AUTIFUL. PROMISES.
(Tct the Editor.) Sir, —• Much dissfa t istf a'c tio n exist throughout the Dominion 'at the inldiffe'retot, feeble and vaieilia'tinig attitude in which the Hon. W. A. Veitehi throttled and discarded the recommendations embodied in the Hallway Commissioner’s report. The United Labour alliance has' been in session Jong enough to hhvei done soon'e nverit'orious Work, but instead it has cho'sen to do nothing except waste public nvonev. They are far from being ai council of .perfection and •sho t w little constructive political ability, and in fact their list of broken pledges dock nob entitle' them to their salary. Their clamfant- appetite for domination and power is - superlative. I wonder if they ready 'undo‘r.sit'a:nid and estimate the value of the intelligence of the public? iM’aniy of the unemployed and their dependents will this; 'Christmas rem'eim'ber that the ,belly lias no ears, neither clan sweet words or promises of seventy millions' fill it. 'The far seeing members of our ebamb'drs of commerce should combine and endeavour 'to secure an eahly meeting of Parliament to d'eal with the Hail'wia-c Commissioner’s report and tire vital unemployed question. The attainment of this 'suggestion .will only be opposed by the narrow and selfish United 'Party. In Australia/ some think that the remedy for all .social eviils. is tire disruption. of society and capital' atn.di the elevation of the noisy and unlit to the position of equals l to or masters of the quite fit. The gossamer promises' of the United Party and the subtle support accorded them by the Labour members (will make ma'nv thousands' think during the approaching summer ha&id’avs. —T. n'm, .etc., CM.
