N.P.H.S. OLD BOYS

ANNUAL BALL

A GREAT SUCCESS

Success exceeding the committee’s expectations attended the second annual ball of the South Taranaki branch of the New Plymouth High School Old Boys’ Association, held last night in St. Joseph’s Hall. There were fully 500 present and all had a most enjoyable time. There were visitors from the whole district from New Plymouth to Wanganui. The hall was tastefully decorated in the school colours, black and white, combined with old gold. From the stage were hung, in festoons, streamers in that colour scheme, while round the walls were masses of palms and other greenery. Sketches on paper and butterflies in black and \flhite and black and gold added to the striking effect evolved by the committee in its desire to make the' ball look as picturesque as possible. In the front of the stage was a massive design of the school badge made and presented by Mr. S. Lay.

Dancing was thoroughly enjoyed to excellent music by Wills’ Melody Orchestra, and aided by a floor that was in perfect condition. During the evening there were two novelty dances, confetti and paper bag waltzes, and these were very popular. Supper was served under the superintendence of a very capable ladies' committee, consisting of Mrs. J. N. Anderson (convener), Misses R. and 3M. Ritter, J. Catchpole, B. Stevens, and M. Kearns, and they received valuable assistance from Mrs. Payten and Mrs. O’Donnell, visitors from Sydney.

The men’s committee included Messrs F. E. Clarke (chairman), W. Ritter, J. Tarrant, K. Riley, D. Syme, G. Sutton. D. Ekdalil, M. Good, and J. W. Palmer. The latter acted as honorary secretary in place of Mr. (GL S. Anderson, absent unavoidably through illness. Messrs R. Morrissey and J. W. Palmer acted efficiently as M’sC. The supper-room was also very prettily decorated, the tables looking mostartistic.

The committee is very grateful to the ladies for the help so generously given and for the effective way they dealt with such a large crowd.
