The Governor-General and Lady Bledisloe will pay an official visit to Carterton on Thursday and during the day will attend the agricultural and pastoral show. They will return to Wellington the same evening;. The following day Their Excellencies will leave Wellington to pay their first official visit to Picton and Blenheim. They will return to Wellington on November 4. Taking advantage of the fact that the cruiser Dunedin’s scheme corresponds with the dates of the visit Their Excellencies will travel by that vessel.
At the meeting of the South Taranaki Educational Institute on Friday at Hawera a welcome. wag extended to Miss M. Douglas (Winnipeg, Canada), exchange teacher on the staff of the Stratford -primary school, and Mr J. P. Hawke, M.A., newly appointed inspector. A, British official wireless message states that the King ha® approved the appointment of General Sir Philip (ihetwode to be a member of the Executive Council of the Government of India on his assumption of the office of Commander-in-Ollief of India. At the meeting of the general committee on Saturday, the sympathy of the Egmont A. and P. Association was extended to the relatives of the late Messrs R. H. Gatenby (Matapu) and H. Clout (Hawera), formerly members of the Association.
