CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE.
FURTHER: RECOMMENDATIONS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) THE HERMITAGE, Oct. 23. Further important remits carried at the conference of Associated Chambers of Commerce to-day were as follow: • Dunedin Chamber : ‘ With a view to effecting economies in the administration of counties and other local bodies this conference urges the Government to consider (1) the question of reducing the number and increasing the size of certain counties and (2) consolidation or amalgamation of certain local authorities.” Dunedin Chamber: “That the Power Boards Act he amended to provide that the franchise for the requisition of loans for reticulation purposes and the election of power hoard members be carried out in a similar manner to itlie voting system adopted by county councils, each voter to have votes in accordance with the rateable value of his property and not, as at present, one vote per voter.” A lengthy but illuminating address on the question of unemployment was given by Mr W. Machin (Christchurch)." The greater part of the address was given in committee and the discussion, which was adiourned till to-morrow, will also be taken in committee.
