OPERA HOUSE ‘ ‘ TALKIES. "SO THIS IS COLLEGE." A college picture filmed on the emupus of the University of Southern California, and in which thousands of students offered their services as extras to give it a realistic atmosphere, the. \letro-G olil wv n -..\ ray e r n-11-t a Iking, singing and dancing comedy drama, "So This is College." opened to a large and enthusiastic audience at the Hnwern Opera House last night. It will he screened at it matinee to-day at - p.m. and finally to-night at S. Biff and Eddie, of the University football eleven, are friends in everything. Until they meet Babs everything goes well. Eddie withdraws from the race when Biff informs him that he is serious—really in love. This annoys Babs, who lures Eddie to break his word to Biff. When Biff discovers that, there is a tight. The friends dissolve partnership ami in the big game against Stanford they play against instead of with each other. Their team is being badly beaten and it is plain that Biff ami Eddie are at fault. During the interval they discover that Babs has been playing them both in her own game. Hired with the realisation of what fools they have been, they plunge into the Stanford line with reckless abandon. Eddie suffers injury and is taken out of the game after making a brilliant gain. Biff goes to work with enough energy for both and kicks a winning field goal. Friends again, Biff and Eddie stroll back to the campus. They are off women for life, until they see the new girl student.

GLTIIAM THEATRE. ‘ THE GOLDEN CALF.” Hailed as one of the best comedies of the year, “The Golden Calf” will show at the Eltliam Theatre to-night. It is a gay story of Bohemian life among artists and tlieir models in New York's famous Greenwich Village, and the staging of the Illustrators’ Ball gives opportunity to introduce several spectacular musical numbers. It lias everything that goes to make a good musical comedy—youth, beauty, romance, comedy, scintillating tunes, dazzling dances, and spectacular specialties. El Bren del, from “Sunny Side Up” fame, in “A picture no artist can Faint” is worth the admission alone. Sue Carol, with an all-star cast and a chorus of 100 of the most talented and beautiful dancing girls, puts a fine finish to a fine picture.
