The trial of Michael Dennis Corrigan, engineer and race-horse owner, at the Old Bailey, where he was sentenced to live years’ penal servitude for fraud revealed an astonishing record oi crime. Goi-rigan. , who is 46 \eais of age, represented himself as employed, by the Standard Oil Company at a salary of £56,009 a year. He obtained £•18.000 from Mrs. Harrold, whose daughter he induced to beeome his mistress, Corrigan already being married. Corrigan first attracted police attention wlien he was a second-grade stew - ard on a steamship. He then joined the Ministry of Munitions, where he called himself Major Cassidy. Later toi hi e years he exploited imaginary concessions in Yucatan, ruining several victims. His frauds amounted to £IOO.OOO. . ~ The judge in sentencing him, said Corrigan had been .guilty of had/ cruel frauds. Corrigan showed no mercy. vine wealthy man lost everything and was obliged to beeome a clerk in an insurance office while Corrigan li\ed in luxury at the best hotels in England and France.
