JUNIOR, GOLF PLAY-OFF

(From Our Own Correspondent.) On Wednesday G, Boyle _ and P. Harding played off for the junior championship, Boyle winning two and one. Beginning at 2 o’clock, the match was not completed until after 6 o clock, the last few holes being played m a very poor light. The match was noteworthy for the standard of play and for the evenness of tlio scoring. At> tne ooi cl hole the players were all square and three to play. LADIES CHAMPIONSHIP, MATCHES.

Mrs R. Morris and Miss Hotter played off for the senior final on Wednesday, Mrs Morris winning six up and five. The second round of the junior championship was also played, the results being: Miss Trotter beat Mrs Burton, Miss Lewis beat Mrs Watt, Miss Hinch beat Mrs Ritchie, Miss Julian beat Mrs Smith. At the annual general meeting of the

Seaside Society Air F. H. H. Sinclair presided over a small gathering of members. , The report of the secretary (Mr T. B. Fouhy) showed that the -society had experienced a very successful year, which was marred at its close by the loss. of the beach pavilion by fire. Starting tlie year with a credit balance of £1 6s 10d and accounts for payment totalling in tlie vicinity of £l2l (including Town Board rates. £6l 14s Id). The year’s operations resulted in the -settlement of all outstanding accounts (excepting the rates), leaving a credit balance of £ls 12s 4d. The. pavilion, which lia-d cost £B4O to build, was well covered by insurance, the amounts received from the insurance company being £6OQ on the building and £IOO on the contents. The finances of the society were in a healthy state notwithstanding the setbacks experienced. The £7OO received had -been deposited in the post office savings bank pending further definite arrangements. After some discussion it was decided on the recommendation of the sub-com-mittee set up to investigate the position, to have plans drawn of a smaller building to he erected on the old foundations at a cost not exceeding £SOO.

EUOHRIB PARTY.

The second euchre party in aid of the Surf Club was held on Wednesday evening at St. Patrick’s Hall. The prizewinners were: . Ladies. Mrs McCullum 1, Mrs Northcott 2; men, Mr W. Whittington 1, Mr Coombes 2. The players at the lucky table were Mr and Mrs Whittington, Mrs Ross and. Mrs. Knight. Competitions were won by Miss Mourie (tray cloth) and Miss Byars (iced) cake). ’

PERSONAL.

Mr and Mrs Knight, of Inglewood, who have been visiting Opunake, have returned home.

Mrs McTayish, of the staff of the Opunake School, lias been called to Auckland, owing to the illness of her mother. Miss Flavin is acting as relieving assistant in her absence.
