OPENING OF METHODIST SOCIAL HALL.

The- Methodist social hall, which lias just been completed, was opened last night. The proceedings commenced with the Sunday School children being given tea at 5.30 p.m, -by the- members of the Methodist congregation, after which a very enjoyable programme was rendered, the following items being contributed: Chorus, scholars, “Ain’t gwine to study war no more’ ’; recitation, “The Pirate,” Don Arclibold; song, “Won‘’t you buy my pretty flowers?” Margaret Oowie and Chlores Stewart; Boy Scouts’ haka, Shirley and P-eggy Arclibold; instrumental duet, B. Kelp and F. Peach; recitation, “Unbreakable Glass,” Maurice Woods; song, Elaine Kennedy; song, “That’s what. God made mothers for,” M. Grant; song, “Little Brown Bird,” Betty Archbold ; mouth-organ solo, Sylvester Kennedy; chorus, ‘ ‘By valley and forest,” . scholars; -song, “The spring,” Pauline McEtwen; duet, “List to the Convent Bells,” C. Stewart and M. Cowie; recitation. “When Father carves the Duck,” Ivan Tippett; duet, “The Little Brown House,” M. Gall-o-wav and C. McEwen”; recitation, 1 ‘The Sparrow,” Betty Arclibold; song, “The Flower Seller,” Pauline McEwen; song, “To a Miniature,” Margaret Cowie;; mandoline solo,, F. Peach; chorus, “Steal away,” scholars; humorous reading, “Naming the Baby,” G. McEwen; recitation, Maurice Woods. The accompaniments were played by Miss Pearl Gane.
Mr. J- Archbold, of Hawera, devoted quite a Tot of time in training the children for the concert, is to be congratulated on the success achieved. ~ Mr. O. Rowe, of Hawera, in an appropriate speech, declared the hall open. At the conclusion of the concert- Mr. Arclibold thanked Mr. Kirk Hall, of Hawera. who erected the building, for the satisfactory manner in which the work had been carried out. A very enjoyable evening was brought to a close by the pdououncing of the Benediction by Rev. E. S. Emmitt.
