Play in the national open golf championship of Australia began to-day on j the Metropolitan links at. Oakleigh with a round of 18 holes, which will be followed by another similar round to-mor-row, after which the leading players will enter upon the elimination rounds. Some of the best scores to-day were: . Eyre, Russell 76, Fawcett, Spence 79, - Nettlefold 81, Campbell, Howard, Lefevre, Naismith, Edgar 82, Whitton, Jackson S 3, Bulte, Stewart 84, Sawers, Robertson, Sloan Morpeth 85, Apperley 86, Hattersley 87.
