CONFIDENCE TRICK
A BAG OF DIAMONDS.
A story of theft by means of the confidence trick was told at- Brighton recently. A foreigner, aged. 53, was charged with being -concerned with another man in stealing £709 from Isadore Grunhaus, a local jeweller. It was stated that the accused called at the shop, saying he was a Canadian who wanted to buy a business. He introduced a Russian, who produced a hag containing “diamonds. ’ ’
Two diamonds were left with Mr Grunhaus, and an expert valued them at- £llO and £9O respectively. Later the two men returned, the alleged Canadian produced a hag containing 40,“diamonds,” and Mr Grunhaus handed over £7OO for them. They were found to he paste. A remand was ordered.
