About a year later it was announced that the marriage would not take place. Last April the engagement of Lady Rosemary to Mr James Watts, of Cheshire’ a nephew of Mrs Agatha Christie, the novelist, was announced, and the date of the wedding was given as June 11, at Westminster Cathedral. Arrangements for the function had been completed to the last detail, and hundreds of guests had been invited to what was expected to be the moist fashionable event of the season. Lady Rosemary and the bridesmaids had even chosen their gowns. The cancellation of the marriage, barely a fortnight before the date fixed, was a big surorise, and the hundreds of wedding presents were returned. Ladv Rosemary has enjoyed a reputation* as one of society’s younger hostesses, and her parties in an underground flat were highly popular. She is extremely versatile, and a sketch called “Time,” which .she wrote in half-an-liour. was broadcast under the name of “Marie Wilbraham.” Lady Rosemary has acted for the wireless on several occasions, and is a clever pliotogranher. Her brother, Lord La thorn, the playwright peer, died early this year.
