NEW PLYMOUTH AERO CLUB
review of the yeah..
SECOND ANNUAL MEETING
The second annual meeting of the New Plymouth Aero Club was held last evening, Mr S. M. Spence piesi - iieviewing the year’s activities. Mi Spence said that the principal point was the fact that the club had been very successful in making bricks witnout straw. Its income from .subscriptions during the year had amounted to' only £BS, but members could see by j the report the progress that had been, made. Further, as there had been no | plane at the beginning of the year, the whole of the work had fallen at that time on the shoulders of the committee. The club, had joined the federation, a move that was going to make a considerable difference. Now the only control the club would have oyer the plane would be when it was stationed in New Plymouth. The stationing of the ’plane in the various places, Hawera, Wanganui, Feilcling and Palmerston North, would be done by the federation. . Since his appointment as nying j officer to the club Lieut. Keith had I done excellent work. Although Lieut. I Keith had been appointed, only a low months ago. the fruits of liis work had been seen in the efficient training of i pilots in the .short time at his disposal. Mr Spence hoped that when Wing-1 Commander Dalton came to New Plymouth the club, would have seven orj eight trained pilots. . . | There was the question of acquiring] a plane for the club and it would be necessary as soon as the finances permitted for the club to possess its own plane. They could not decide that matter definitely until tliev knew the result of the art union. Matters had been finalised lor the art union that on a basis which, he hoped would be. satisfactory for both the New Plymouth and Wanganui clubs. Mr Hammond, Wellington, had been appointed organiser and Mr S. E. Nielson secretary. The committee controlling it consisted of the president of the Wanganui club and the president of the New Plymouth club. The art union would be launched on September 20. Mr Spence said that the full-time ground engineer to be appointed by the federation would he required to move about with the ’planes. The club, however, would have to have its own ground engineer, and although it was known that Mr C. Parker was willing to assist at any time, it would be n good move to appoint another ground engineer to help. Mr Parker was appointed tr< the position.
