The Australian cricketers commenced their match, against Kent m hue weather to-day. At the drawing of stumps for the day the Australians were all out for ISI and Kent had lost four wickets for 87 runs. The match started late owing to the late arrival of the team’s train. The teams are: Kent. —Chapman, Legge, Bryan, Knott, Todd, Hardinge, Woolley, Freeman Ashdown, Ames, Wright. Australia—Woodfull, Wall, Ponsford, Bradman, Fairfax, Jack son, Grimmett, a’Beckett, Richardson, Hurwood. Walker. Woodfull and Ponsford, who opened for Australia, scored 39 in steady fashion when the captain started too slow for a short single and 1 was thrown out. Without addition Freeman, who was remarkably successful this season, claimed Ponsford, Ashdown taking a wonderful catch at square-leg. Jackson and Bradman gave a poor exhibition and both were out before lunch. An inspection of the wicket revealed a slope resulting ill Freeman, making the ball come in sharply from the leg. Richardson hit brightly, but Fairfax was out to a full toss. The total was then five for 9S.

A full ground saw the debacle continue. Richardson drove powerfully, bitting seven fours in 65 minutes. An amazing catch by Chapman at third slip sent back Grimmett who stopped to congratulate Chapman. Hurwood, who batted with skill and confidence, severely punished Freeman, who was taken off. Hurwood batted for 55 minutes and 1 hit seven fours. The Australians have now been dismissed twice in succession for .under 200. The county openers, batting soundly, put on 71 before Grimmett claimed them. 'Woolley and Ames, both good batsmen, failed before the attack of Wall. Scores:— AUSTRALIA. First Innings.
