In the opening stages it .appeared, as though Manawheniua. would be a hard proposition. the pack showing plenty of vim in, dribbling rushes which repeatedly held the opponents on their goal line Half-time came'with the scores standing in Wanganui’s favour at 6 to 3. Tilley registering .a, penalty goal foilManawhenua while Darby was responsible for two* tries for Wanganui which wore not converted.
The second spell revealed) infinitely more life in the. Wanganui pack and the backs m ere able to appreciate openings in. the defence. Majiawhenua’s rearguard did not have pace sufficient to cope- with its opponents once clear ground was offered. Gibbons scored twice for Wanganui, Morgan once and Ambrose once, Morgan being responsilie for two conversions, bringing the Wanganui score to 22.
