ROTORUA TOURNEY. PLAY IN OPENING ROUNDS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) ROTORUA, Aug. 27. The first round of the Rotorua golf championship was played in dull weather with drizzling rain. The course was true, but heavy. The' second round play in the afternoon produced magnificent golf, though rain was falling steadily at the close. Details are: Rotorua Championship. First Round.—Rex Georg© beat S. E. Carr, 5 up and 4 to play; Pa rata heat L. Buddie, 3 and 1; Mowden, jun., beat H. B. Lusk, 3 and 2; Plumley beat Duncan, 3 and 2; O’Callaghan beat Monzies. 3 and 2; Hocken beat Wells, 2, and 1; Troutbeok heat Bartleet, 1 up; Brinsden beat D. F. Howden. 6 and 5. Second Round.—George heat Harnta, 3 and 2; Plumley heat C. P. Howclen, 2 and 1 ; Hocken beat O’Callnghan, 1 up on the 19th; Troutbeok beat Brinsden, 2 and 1. Thermal Cup. First Round. —Rainger heat R. C. Smith, 6 and 4; Brett heat Hursley, 5 and 4;. F. C. Hutchinson beat Harold, 3 and 2; Goss beat F. N. Hutchison, 4 and 3 : Harrison heat C. T. Kusabs, 4 and 2; Western beat Jacobsen, 4 and 2; Abbott beat I. S. BarnesGraham, 6 and 5; 31. D. Carr bent Tidmarsli, 1 up. Second Round.—Goss beat Hutchinson, 1 up; Harrison beat Western. 4 and 2; Abbott beat M. D. Carr, 2 and 1; Rainger heat Brett, 1 up. The bogey handicap was won by E. Brown (9), 2 up, R. Rainger (4), 1 up, being runner-up. AUSTRALIAN WOMEN’S TITLE. CHAMPIONSHIPS' COMMENCE. MELBOURNE, Aug. 27. The women’s golf championship of Australia began to-day at the Commonwealth links in ideal weather. The competing players are from four States and New Zealand. Miss L. Wray, holder of the title, and Mrs. Outhouse, a former champion, ate among the competitors. The first of the two qualifying rounds was played to-day. The New Zealander Miss Olive Kaye made an impressive appearance with a round ot 83, which included an eight at the simple fifth hole, where she pulled her drive among some trees. She had to I play left-handed in an endeavour to recover and wasted three strokes. Sirs' took a six at the next hole and another at the seventh. Miss Leslie Bailey (Victoria) led at the end of tire round with 89, Miss Knve followed with her 83, and then came Miss Susie Tolhurst 84, Mrs. Russell and Miss Wray SB. and Miss Rathhone (New Zealand) 89.
