REVALUATION WANTED

CROWN TENANTS’ CLAIM SEQUEL TO BRANCH 'LINE ■CLOSING. (By Telegraph—Special to “The Star.’ ) WELLINGTON, Aug. 217. A number of Crown tenants on the Wilben Estate, Otago, have petitioned through Mr W. A. Bodlcin, IMjP. for Central 'Otago, protesting against a. reduction in the railway services since they took, up their areas. They, declare that, in applying fer this land, they confidently formed their judgment on. the rail access shown in the plans and that there had been insufficient time to transport the. heavy; quantities of material needed in sub-' division and: other improvements. The decision to close the HcriotEdievalo section will seriously upset their calculations of expenses and must retard improvements. Had the railway been closed before the purchase cf the estate, it would have reduced its price. The petitioners ask for a revaluation of their holdings and a reduction in rent, based on the depreciated value on land due to the absence of railway facilities.
