PUBLIC LIBRARY. MEETING OF COMMITTEE. A meeting of the committee of the Patea Public Library was held on Friday Mr A. T. Christensen presiding. Messrs Stevens, Pettigrew, Rapps, Hamel, Semple, Hills, Hemingway, Glenny and Findlay were also present. Correspondence was read from Mr E. F. Warren, sole executor in the Hunter Shaw Estate, stating that he had put £2OO to the credit of the Library Committee’s account at the Bank of New Zealand for the purpose of providing shelves, floor covering, etc., the balance, if any, after the articles required are purchased, to go to the local Plunket Society. The chairman reported that the furnishing committee had accepted a tender for shelving and two tables. The matter of opening the library was left in the hands of the chairman to arrange with the other local bodies concerned. , It was decided to obtain photographs of the library and forward: copies to Mr Warren. Nine applications were received for the position of librarian, and it was finally deeded that the matter be left in the hands of a. isub-committee. The meeting then adjourned. KNOX CHURCH. A pleasant evening was spent in the Foresters’ Hall on Wednesday, when a. bring and buy evening was held in aid of the forthcoming Presbyterian bazaar. A splendid assortment of gifts was brought along and duly sold at good prices, thanks to the good work of Mr Frank Naismitli. During the evening songs were rendered by Miss Sutherland, Mrs F. Lund, and Messrs Mawhinney and Naismitli, and an excellent recitation by Master Pauling. A dainty supper was banded round by the ladies and brought a successful evening to a close.

PERSONAL. The death of Mr Cyril Varnham took place at Wellington on Thursday last. He was a resident of Patea prior to the Great War, in which he served for some three years. During his residence in Patea he made a host of friends, who will deeply regret his passing.
