LIGHT ’PLANE CRASHES
PILOT ESCAPES UNINJURED. ACCIDENT NEAR. PAEKAKARHvI. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 25. A Wellington pilot, 11. Berryman, crashed his machine at Paekakariki this afternoon. Two of the club-trained pilots, Messrs O. M. Duthie and JR. Berryman, went on a flight to Feilding yesterday morning, and all went well upon the return journey, which was commenced at 1.45 p.m., until they reached Paekakariki. They met a strong southerly wind and ran, into thick, low clouds which made it impossible to return upon the course they had intended, and they decided that it would b© necessary to go around Cape Terawhitd. The benzine supply, however, was not sufficient for such a. trip, and so they agreed to land in a paddock and refuel. Duthi© was. flying a club Moth and landed successfully, but Berryman, in his own| A,vro Alvian, made a couple of vain attempts to land in the field and finally overshot, hit a fence and tipped up. Duthie, however, refuelled and came into Wellington, arriving at 5.15. Berryman will return by car to-night.
