MANAT A BEAT HAWERA. Haw era sent a team of Wednesday players to Manaia yesterday and, after a. series of very interesting matches, were defeated by four matches to one, two being halved. The results were as below: — Armitage and Davies v. Cox and Blair, all square; Young and Ryan 0 v. Vinnicombe and Champion 1; Miller and Jordan 1 v. Simpson and R. Pago 0; Davies and Watts 1 v. Batchelor and Sagar 0; Mculi and Walker 1 v. Robb and Smith 0; Henwood and Spooner v. Hainsworth and Westaway, all square; Pole and J. Hammonds 1 v. Zinsli and Hammond 0. During the afternoon the players were very hospitably entertained at afternoon tea by the Manaia ladies. At the conclusion, Mr Miller, captain of the Manaia Club, expressed the pleasure felt by his club at welcoming the visitors, Mr -‘v. Blair happily replying on behalf of the Hawera Club team. AVhile the usual club championships are being played a championship will be staged for limit handicap members for a trophy given by “Anonymous.” This event will be conducted on exactly the same principle as the others —‘Straight-out match .play, in which handicap strokes are not taken into account. Owing to the large number eligible to play in this championship, members will assist greatly by getting their individual matches off without delay. AVlivte plays Jordan, Ablett plays Bramwell. The Anderson Cup final over 36 holes will also be played this week-end between Sturrock and Sutton.
