MATAPU.
BACHELORS' AND SPINSTERS’ BALL. (Prom Our Own Correspondent.) A large crowd was present at the Matapu Hall last Thursday evening on the occasion of the bachelors’ and spinsters’ ball. Excellent music was supplied by Henderson’s star orchestra, extras being plaved by Misses B. Seed and M. Guy. The winners of the Monte Carlo dances were Miss D. Brisco and Mr Reynolds, and Miss M. Glengarry and Mr 11. Cook. Messrs R. Grcenough and T. Huekstep were M.C.’s. The supper arrangements were in the hands of Mesdamcs Guy, Seed and Startup, and a band of willing helpers.
EUCHRE PARTY. The final euchre party and dance was held in the Matapu Hall on Tuesday, there being a large crowd of card and dance entimsiasts present. The first prizes for the evening were won by Mrs C. "Willis and Mr Taylor and the second by Miss R. Huekstep (after a play-off with Mrs Joyce and the Misses Taylor and AV. Gatenby); the gents’ second prize went to Mr Coleman. The points prizes for the series were won by. Miss \V. Gatenby and Mr A. Robertson. The music for the dance was supplied by TMiss Vf . Guy, while Mrs Seed, Miss B. Seed and Mr Raison played extras. Mr T. Huekstep was master of ceremonies. On Wednesday afternoon, when the local school children were entertained at afternoon tea in the hall by the ladies, tin' football team took the opportunity of presenting Mr T. Guy with a camera and an Eversharp pencil. Mr Guy has been football coach .for the past two years and has proved a very enthusiastic teacher. Mr Prestidge (chairman of the school committee) called upon Master Laurie Birchall (vice-captain) to make the presentation. Mr Guy suitably replied. Mr Seed took advantage of the opportunity to present the prizes won last year in the boys’ and girls’ calf-rearing competition. The remainder of the afternoon was spent in folk dancing, singing, reciting and games, after which afternoon tea was handed round by I the ladies.
