TORCH LAMP INADEQUATE
LIGHTS ON BICYCLES. On a charge of riding a bicycle in High Street without a properly attached light on the evening of August 8. Herbert- Allen was fined £1 and. 30s costs fo' Mr J. H. Salmon S.M.. in the Hawera- Court yesterday. In presenting the charge, the borough inspector (Mr L. Hunt) stated that defendant had a torch in his pocket. It should be understood said the inspector, that a. torch was not an adequate light. It was required that cycle lamps should be attached to the machine. In a Jetter to the court defendant said he had been riding a bicycle for six years and) had always used! ‘ a _ torch light. When spoken to by the inspector, he at once purchased a good lamp.
