SHOOTING THE WEIRS
STUDENTS' CANOE FEAT. Mr A. S. Hopkinscn, editor of the Isis, and another Oxford student, _Mr B. Nicholson. attempted one night lately to shoot- several weirs on the Thames in a canoe* —a feat never essayed since. Mr Hilaire Belloc went over some 20 vears ago. Mr Mopkinson and Mr Nicholson successfully shot the Magdalen Mill and 1 flic v- Mill weirs, but at the Dong Bridges weir their cancc was upset, and Mr Nic'acison was knocked-almost imoonseious. Some young men. camping on the* bank threw cat a lifebelt, and ho was towed ashore. About a. week previously Mr Hopkinson, Air Bernard Wall. Air Denzil Batchelor and Air Hugh Sneaight trawjrseicF the underground sewers of cxforcl, and a fortnight previously Air H.opkinsen dev ended the mediaeval well in the castle .grounds.
