STRANGE ACTION
SUICIDE AT CROSS ROADS

NEW PLYMOUTH, Aug, 6.
The dead body of Ernest Southam Beckwith was found hanging from a sign-post at the cross roads, Tututawa, out of Stratford. Leonard J. Caskey, a county foreman, found deceased and cut the cardigan jacket that Beckwith had used to hang himself, but life was extinct.
Beckwith had been missing since Monday evening, and fears had been held by his relatives for some days concerning the despondent moods of deceased after a recent operation. A verdict of suicide while in a depressed. mental state resulted at the inquest this morning. . Evidence showed that previously deceased had not gone away by himself at night, but frequently during the day he would go away and sit on a hank in a moody state. Six months ago deceased had an operation and had 'been in the hospital until about a month ago.
