Mr R. A. Falla, lecturer in nature study at Auckland Training College, has been appointed a member of Sir Douglas Mawson’s Antarctic expedition. He went south with Sir Douglas last year, states a Press Association telegram. Yesterday the funeral took place at Stratford of Mr Lance V. Gibson, who died from exposure on Mt. Egmont early on Monday morning. It was one of the most impressive seen in the town and the cortege was over half-a-mile in length. Mourners came from all parts of Taranaki, and there were many beautiful floral tributes Deceased was buried with full military honours, and a party of 50 ex-servicemen paid their last respects to their former comrade, while, most of the business premises wore closed. Revs. J. MacGregor and J. Bissett of the Presbyterian Church conducted the service at tbe graveside, after which Mr J. McAllister recited the Masonic burial service and members and the craft filed I nnst. dropping sprigs of acacia on tho lowered casket. The crash of a soldier’s last salute, the three rounds fired over the grave, came with startling sudden-, ness upon the solemn atmosphere of tbe cemetery, to be followed by the sounding of the “Last Post.” The Stratford Boys’ Band then played “Abide With Me.” !
