SCHEME OF CONTROL DOMINION AND AUSTRALIA NEW COUNCIL FORMED. Resulting from a conference iheld in Melbourne on July 21, which- was attended by Air W. A. Spragg, of Hawera-, ns president of the New Zealand Auto Cvcite Union, and air A, May,, of Mar.tan, the New Zealand secretary, a new body has been established to. control motor ovcle- sport in both- Australia, and. New Zealand and officiate in the joint, interests of motor cycle racing, in both countries. . . . Tho position was outlined to a xiawera Star’’ ieporter to-day during an interview with .Mr Spragg, who has juft returned from tiro to Austria!ia. “'J he new governing body is- to be called tihe Auto. Cycle Council' of Australia and New. Zealand, ’’ said'Mr Spragg. ‘•Previously the sport in the Commonweath and New Zealand lias been under s-e.pa.iats control, the New Zealand administration lieiug under the- New Zealand Auto Ovc le. Union, , arid that- in Australia being controlled' by the AutoCycle Council of Austra'iin. “Tho Australian council .consisted: of representatives of the various -States. , bub gave no rights of representation to New Zealand. A co-ordination of interests in order to facilitate suc-li matters as interchanges of riders and uniformity of rules governing flue: isip-ort eyas desired. The New Zealand Union sought an amalgamation with Australia and an offer of representation on the Australian Council was received, but-.as that wouid e-nta.il the loss of the Dominion’s identity the Australian suggestion was not- favoured by the New 1 Zealand Union. “At the conference the Australian delegate-.; offered, -as a compromise, that the name of the* controlling body he changed to the Auto Cycle Council of Australasia., 'but the Now Zealand Union would not accept- that, and filially the confer* nice agreed to the re-naming of the bod'v as the Auto Cycle Council of Australia and -New Zealand'.’’
Mr. Snragg w-a? elected as the New Zealand representative on the- Council, which meets -once a year. The next conference is to be held at Sydney on July 7 ,1931. The general! council conference Mr Spragg further explained, is to consist of two delegates from each of the Australian States and New Zealand-, and will meet every -other year, when it will elect the executive- council. The next such general conference will lie held in 1932. A report cf the recent Conference in Australia would be presented at the New Zealand, conference being he-kl on August 6. and it would then be- necessary to amend certain of the Dominion rules to conform with the new constitution, concluded Mr S'pragg,,
