WELLINGTON, July 30. _ The plea that if defendant loist his license h'e would !be deprived of his livelihood was advanced Iby counsel on the Magistral tie’s Court to-day when appearing for Fred JBiairnhouse, who pleaded guilty to a charge of being intoxicated while in Charge of a motor cajr yesterday. Sub-Inspector Lopdell said- that a constable’s attention was drawn /to an engine ra|ci'ng dn Woodward Street and he had seen, that the driver of thle car was l having difficulty. After witnessing several! l \imshe'eeissful attempts the constable went over and found Earn - house intoxi'c.aibed. Harnhouse was taken tlo the police station where about 50 minutes afterwards hie was examined by a doctor who certified that he was not in a fit. state to drive a car.
