(Bv Telegraph—Press Association.) PALMERSTON N., July 30. Although further rain fell yesterday « and during the night the tracks at Awapuni were nevertheless in good order this morning. It was an off morning. Included in the new arrivals to hand are Omeo, Huirangi Girl, Young Thurnliam, Courageous,. Shortly, Kalakaua. Teri, Portray, Hinatore. Courageous and Shortly, with lightweights up, ran seven furlongs on the trial grass in 1.30. Teri and Portray ran home from the five furlongs post on the same track in 1.6 4-0.

Hopwood and Te Atiawa were partners over a half-mile flutter. Hopwood had tlie advantage at the post. The distance was left behind in 52sec-. HAWERA TRACK NOTES

(By “Limited.”)

The horses Oopey, Pikimai, Maid-os. Calamine and Orazone left by mau train this morning for Palmerston North to take part at the Manawatu meeting to-morrow and on Saturday. The Warden was not taken down. Old Pikimai was never in better condition and is sure to be fancied for the Kiwitea Hunters’ Hurdles. Copey is also well seasoned and the better of the pair should have something serious to say in the decision of the event. Maidos is such a splendid jumper that he will be in the van of the__ steeplechase for a .good part of the journey, the length of which —three miles—is likely to beat him. Orazone is scarcely as seasoned as> some of her -opponents in the Clifford Handicap and this may militate against, her chances on the first- day. Airtight, who suffered a severe knock above the eye whilst racing prominently in the July Steeplechase at Trentham, has recovered and is working regularly again. Bright Glow has returned’ to her training quarters looking well after her holiday. The mare, will take some time and is not likely to be required for early spring racing. Men dip is in great condition and is in splendid shape to take on the Sydney trip if it eventuates. j. Fryer is Taranaki’s leading trainer again this season, his score now standing at 29 wins-, which is second with S. Ware on the list of winning trainers for the Dominion.

Green Lin neb has thickened out during her recess and looks in splendid order to. commence preparatory work. She displayed plenty of pace in a sprint over a few furlongs the other morning aud looks likely to do her owner-trainer goocl service during the coming season. Son o’ Mine is bowling’ along again, and has quite recovered from any stiffness caused by his mishap at Wellington. W. Bine has an addition to his team in a- coming two-vear-old filly bv Lackham from a Coronet mare, the dam of Giribillie. The new season commences hereabouts with the Taranaki Hunt- Club’s meeting at the end of August and Hawera stables will be well represented. The Greayspe-ar gelding Joyspear has been put into active work again and should be an improved horse this season.
