MISS AMY JOHNSON
NO MASEFIELD ODE, The new Poet Laureate, Mr. John Masefield, has missed his first great chance of writing a national ode. Tie will not immortalise Miss Amy Johnson in verse. With the world singing Amy’s praises on her great flight to Australia, with honours showering upon her from every side, what more fitting climax in the opinion of some people could there be to her triumphs than that the Poet Laureate should .signalise hi's appointment by commemorating her feat? The editor of the Sunday Chronicle telegraphed to Mr. Masefield asking if he would undertake to write a commemorative ode. This was his reply : •‘Much regret cannot possibly write requested.”
