BIG BEN’S LAPSES
SECOND OUT 21 TIMES
That Bio- Ben was frequently wrong in the oast year was a revelation made by the’Atronomer Royal to the hoard of visitors to the Observatory at Greenwich on June 4. On 21 occasions London’s famous clock was more than one second in error, and on 104 occasions between half and a second. On the other hand the time halls at the Admiralty signal stations at Portsmouth and Portland proved better timekeepers. They were never more than a second in error and on only two occasions were they between half a second and one second.
