HAWERA FIRE BOARD

QUARTERLY MEETING

At the. quarterly meeting of the Hawera Fire Board l this morning the chair was occupied! by Air G. J. Bayley. Other members japesent were Misses W. d. Strang©, G. Duncan an cl jVX. Artiom. An apology for absence was received from the chairman of the board (Air L. A. Bone).

FIRE SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT.

The fire superintendent (Air A. Morrison), (reporting on the operations of the Tire brigade during the period from April 1 to date, stated:— - Calls.—-The brigade received five calls. Of these one was an actual lire on property, one a justifiable false alarm and three were chimney fires. Staff. —'.Live present strength of the brigade is 17. Firemen R, .Hammond, F. Gray and C. Ambuiy have been admitted as members on probation, The conduct and discipline of all members and the general ehiiciency of the brigade are satisfactory.

Plant. —The Duplex street alarm system and the direct alarm to the Oid People’s Horn© are in first-class order. Roth motors are running well. Water Tower.—Air Evans (electrical engineer) has. made periodical inspections of the water tower plant, which is in good order. Subsidy.—On behalf of the brigade 1 make application for the quarterly subsidy, which amounts to £4 10s. The superintendent tendered his thanks to the board for the hearty .support accorded on all occasions in which' matters pertaining to the efficiency of the brigade have been under consideration.

GENERAL

Advice was received that the National Provident Fund Board! bad cided that it was prepared to entertain applications from the various boards for superannuation with a retiring age of 60.

Th© Hawera. County Council expressed by letter that it was prepared to renew, for a further period of three years under a subsidy of £75 per annum, the agreement covering fire prevention service in the outer area.

Certified balance-sheets -for the past two years wore received from the Audit Department. Accounts- amounting to- £370 6s Id were passed for payment.
