AXE ATTACK ON INVALID
H USB AND CHAR GED WITH Murder, Christina .Shilton, aged 62, an invalid, of Higher 'Lane, Ken-ridge, near Macclesfield, was killed, apparently with a hatchet, while she was m bed. and her husband, Samuel Shilton, aged 60, was charged at Macelesfie'id with murder. Mrs Shilton had been an invalid lo*20 years, suffering from .rheumatism, and had been bedridden for the fast six infantilis'. James G.atley, an adopted sen of Mr and Mrs Shilton, called to see them on the previous evening. He did not stay long and went to the 'lionise next door. He returned, carrying his baby in his arms, and found Airs Shilton dying. He shouted to the neighbours. handed the child to them, and ran to the police station. Sh.iUton, however, had arrived there, before him I Shilton, an ex-regular soldier, had not been in work for years, and lie and his wile had been drawing parish jol.ief. The man presented a very dejected appearance at the Ponce Court. During the, evidence lie broke down and exclaimed. ‘‘My poor wife.,’’
