FARMERS’ UNION' VIEWS. (By Telegraph—Press Association). WELLINGTON. .Time 18. The danger of unearthed wire fences was stressed when the New Zealand Farmers’ Union Conference considered a remit that, having regard to the fact that electric power hoards have (treated the liability in respect of nower lines crossing or paralleling wire fences, the power hoards or the Public Works Department should accept the responsibility of earth wiring such fences as a: protection against the possible loss of life of human beings or live •stock. The remit was carried after a brief discussion The conference decided that the present system of voting on power hoard loans 'was iniquitous, and it was resolved that the Power Boards- Act should be amended to nrovide that on a question of loans, the be the same n:s nrovided in the Counties’ Act. each voter having votes in accordance with the rateable value of his property. A further remit was carried that rr-oi'esentat ions he made to the Government in an endeavour to obtain , more eoiiitable charges to the consumer For electric power as between eitv and country areas.
The conference also adopted a Wairna remit that where a guarantee to r>o electric nower snnnlv exceeds P GO +he land affected should he exeluded Pm*., flu. inner ratine- area and an availability rate should not be charged.
