TROY CUP G-AiM Tv SOUTHERN CHALLENGE FAILS Bright ‘Rugby was witnessed at Waitar a yesterday, when the Atiawa Maori fifteen held off a strong challenge from the' Ngatiruanui (Manaia district 1 ) representatives for the Troy Cup, Atiawa winning by 12 points to 5. The winning points came from tries by McLeod and Leaf.herby and two penalty goals kicked by Skipper, while Heneri scored a try converted 1 bv S. Rei for the challengers. The home visitors by D. Wineera, both of whom, visitors by C. Wineera, both of whom, together with others of the respective sides, are well known in Taranaki football. '
The TrO'p Cup, which is a newly donated trophy for Maori football is for competition between teams representing tribes in the district between Waitatara and Parininihi. ‘The Atiawa tribe became the first holder when the trophy <wa» donated this year, and yesterday sustained the first challenge.
