TOKAORA.

HALL ADDITIONS. OPENING CEREMONY

I’n order to fitly mark the most recent addition to the hall at Tokaora, the enlargement Of the euchre and supper room, the committed arranged a special evening and invited Mr C. A. Wilkinson, AI.P., to perform the opening ceremony. This took place last night, when there was present one of the largest gatherings for a euchre party in the history of the hall. The new accommodation was fully taxed to seat the company present. Just before supper, Mr S. Thrush briefly introduced Mr Wilkinson and accorded him a cordial welcome. ITe said that during the past three years there had been several additions to the hall —two dressing rooms on the front of the building, a, supper room and kitchen, and now the enlargement of the euchre room by putting on six feet along the eastern side. After all this work had been done there was only a sum of .£lO6 of debt- on. the hall, and it was hoped to clear a good deal of this during the winter. The Hall Committee had done great work, and the last addition had made a great improvement to the convenience of those who regularly attended the euchre parties, and made the room a really useful part of the hall. The committee was much indebted to Mr T. Bollond for the assistance he had given during the time the work was being done. Air Wilkinson said he was very oleased to be present to perform the opening ceremony of a room that was n necessary adjunct to any hall and a valuable asset to the people of the district. It was a tribute to, the energy arid enterprise of the committee which had been responsible for the work of building the hall. In every .community leaders were needed who were willing to take on the burden of such work. He wished them all success and hoped soon to hear that they had cleared the debt still owing on the building. Tn conclusion, lie said he was nleased to declare the room onen for the use of the people, and wished n.ll prosperity to the district and its, nenule. The euchre tourney was very successful. and the winners were as follow: Ladies. Airs E. Jennings (11J) I, Afesdames F. Stewart, Dvmond and O. Jackson ill each) eounl £: men, Mr 0. Gilbert (Ml) 1.
