Ihe “Daily Mail” state that overtures have been made to some of the largest London buyers of precious stones to purchase the collection, which is described as of immense historical and intrinsic value The identity of the country—it is not Russia —is being kept secret. One of the leading Hatton Garden diamond merchants said:—“We have been acquainted with the fact that the jewels are for sale, and it is possible that British experts may go to the foreign country to examine them.
“A price of seven million is beingasked, but until the collection has been viewed it is impossible to estimate its real value. This collection, however, is said to be composed of stones of amazing rarity and brilliance.” The jewels, it is said, have been collected over many years by tbe 111011aclis of the country, now selling them, and have been worn by queens and princesses on many historic occasions.
