LADIES’ BALL.
The ladies’ annual ball. held on Tuesday last at Mangatoki, was a very enjoyable event. The dancing took place, beneath a network of autumn shaded streamers, Avhile -'the walls were effectively decorated with autumn leaves and greenery. Coburn’s popular orchestra, supplied the music, and during the supper dance snowballs and confetti thrown among the dancers, provided a very pretty _ effect. Extras were nlayed by Miss N. Perry and Miss' R,*Michelson while -Messrs L. Astbury and C. Colson carried out the M’s.C. duties.
EUCHRE PARTY. The tables for the progressive euchre were well, filled when the parties commenced recently, and it is hoped that the enthusiasm of the players will continue throughout the fortnightly series of play. Although Mrs Bennie, Mrs Nicholas and Miss E. Taylor played off for the ladies’ prize, Mrs Bennie was the winner of a pyrex dish, and Mrs McGuinness the winner of a booby prize. Mr J. P. Marx, winner of the men’s prize, was presented with an alarm clock, while Mr Gernhoefer, ' winner of the booby prize, was presented with a small mirror. At the conclusion a dainty supper was provided bv the ladies. ' I PRESENTATION TO TEACHER. On Friday afternoon at the school break-up Mr J. P. Marx, chairman of the' School Committee, presented, on behalf of Mr Farnell, Miss McGregor and the children, a bedroom clock to Miss Henry on the occasion of her leaving to take up teaching duties at the Opunake School. He also expressed regret at her leaving, because she had helped tremendously in the i sports ground. Miss Iris Carlson also i presented Miss Henry with a bouquet. PERSONAL. Mrs G. and Miss G. Marx, accompanied by Mr S, Marx have motored to Hamilton, and intend returning at the end of the week. , „ Miss Montefioro is -the guest ol Mr and Mrs McGuinness. Miss D. Parker has returned from Auckland. . Mr S. Parker is spending a holiday in the north. „ „ ~ Miss E. Clarke, of New Plymouth, was a visitor at the ladies’ ball. Mr E. Warden, of Auckland, has been the guest of Mr H. Clarke. The friends of Mrs L. Rowe will lie pleased to- bear of her return from Auckland, where she underwent a serious operation. Mr and Mrs A. Hammond are spending a holklav in the north. yfr M. Michel.son is spending a few days in Auckland. , . Miss B. Pease is the guest ol Mr and Mrs O. Pease. Mrs A. McCracken ami her son. Mr T/. A. McCracken, have returned from a motor tour to Auckland. ( Mrs T. Perry lias also returned from Auckland.
