VERY OLD FOREST
DISCOVERY IN NEW MEXICO. Professor George AYieiand, of Yale University, announces the discovery of the largest, and probably the oldest, of petrified hardwood forests, in the San Juan basin in New Alexioo. The collection contains pal mottoes, fern roots, and the bones of turtles and “dinosaurs. . These fossils, which are m extraordinary variety, indicate their appearance on the 'i an scape 40,000,000 years ago, a,coording to the University’® reckoning.
