MATCH WITH LANCASHIRE VISITORS’ BATTING IMPROVES HORNIBROOK’S GOOD BOWLING. iDmtea rress Association —By Electric Telegraph Copyright., Received 10.30 a.m. to-day, LONDON, May 16. The match between Australia and Lancashire was resumed this morning in warm sunshine and a -strong breeze. Grimmett’s fingers were sore from spinning the ball. The propect of an interesting finish attracted 2000 spectators. . , Eckersley was again confident. Paynter hit one back to Fairfax in the second over, the bowler falling in taking a good catch. Grimmett again puzzled Eckersley, but the Lancashire captain resolutely kept his foot in the crease. The Lancashire match ended tamely in a draw. Play to-day was confined to four and a-half hours. The last five Lancashire. . batsmen were dismissed- for the addition of 64 runs, and Australia had to make 227 in 160 minutes to win. ) The brightest (incident of the day was R. Tyldesley’-s 25 in as many imnutes. "He drove Grimmett to the boundary off four successive balls. Hornibrook bowled finely throughout and finished with very good figures. Australia, made a sporting bid for victory, hut Sibbles and McDonald commanded respect, and the visitors’ chance of winning gradually faded. Richardson, after hitting Hopwood. for six. put his leg in front- of a straight ball." The match then degenerated into batting practice. Jack-son was cautious and uninspiring, but Bradman was aggressive. The former went out in the same way as in the first innings. Bradman and Kippax played out time. Scores:
