COLLISION ON BRIDGE
CAR AND LORRY
INJURY TO OCCUPANTS
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) STRATFORD, May 15. An accident with all the elements of a. tragedy happened about 8 o’clock this morning on a bridge just north of Midhirst on the Mountain Road.
A small truck belonging to the Taranaki Power Board and driven by the lines engineer, Mr. Jardine, which was going north, came into collision with a kfg private oar driven by Mr. J. S'omerton, of New Plymouth, who was going south. The impact occurred when the truck was almost off the bridge. The fore part of each vehicle was badly damaged,'and the force of the impact can be guagod from the fac£ that the ironwork of the truck was .worked into the ironbark woodwork of the bridge.
Most of the occupants of both vehicles sustained injury. Mi's. Oliver, sister of Mrs. It. 'Wood, of Stratford, who was in the south-bound oar, had severe injuries to her head and scalp, and Mr. Jardine had' severe injuries to his face an head. Mr. B. Becbridge, who was in the north-bound vehidie, had bad cuts. In the south-bound car Mrs. Thorpe, of New Plymouth, had her shoulder injured, but she returned to her home, and Mr. Johnston, of Wa.itara, was treated for injuries to his scalp., while Mr. Somerton had cuts on his hands. Also in the south-bound car was Mr,s. Edgar Da:sli.
