SETTLING DOWN TO PRACTICE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, May 15. The English footballers lia-d a- light practice yesterday. The. forwards are heavier than they l-ook at first, and the average is nearly 14 stone. Beamish scales 16st. and Parker is neatly lost. They showed ■some very good handling of the ball, and the backs appeared speedy and used to- pot-shot at goal repeatedly. Mr. J. Baxter, manager of the team, was present at a meeting of the Rugby Union council, and he expressed! sympathy with the desire of the Dominions to have a, say in the government of the game, and believed that it would not be long before they achieved it. It was agreed that th-e matches should be of 40-minute spells, and that the English captain and manager should have the right to talk with referees before each game regarding the interpretation of the rules.
