THE LATE ME. CHARLES QUIN, an early settler, and Captain of the Normanby Volunteer Rifles, a small band of settlers who built a fort at Normanby and armed themselves in readiness to defend the settlement in the spring of 1879. Though they were not called upon to do any fighting, the "rifles" drilled assiduously for a time with the oddments of arms they were able to procure from various sources.
