THE CASTLE PLEDGE.

I promise to smile every time I can, and. to chase all the frowns into the dark cave, -where the Smile Giant 'will kill them -with his Magic Sword Happiness.

My Deal' Smiles, — I was very pleased last week to find some of you. had remembered without any reminder from me that the Smile Castle Page would be resumed last Saturday. I had hardly expected to have any letters for the first issue, but I was delighted to find a few in my mail bag just the same. It is very nice to have the letters coming in again and to find among the first some of our oldest members. The prizes won last year by the most regular correspondents have been sent out, and, as you will see by the letters, the winners have already determined to be in the running next year. That is indeed a good New Year resolution, and I hope most heartily it will be kept, but I would like to see many more of my Smiles making a race for those prizes. If yon all come equal so much the better! I don't doubt that we will be able to find at the Castle prizes for everybody in that event! I notice some of the schools have had their picnics. Soon many more will be held and I know that you all will be hoping for fine weather on those festive days. I hope, too, that we have many more real summer days between now and the end of March—and if the Weather Man should so far forget himself as to extend the summer days even a little further none of us will grumble, I am sure, for he certainly owes us a good measure of sunshine yet. Next week I would like my Smiles to tell me which they like best of the stories and poems on this page. I have a good collection waiting for you, but I would like to get an idea what type of- article appeals to you most. Lots of love to you my dears, — Your Affectionate Smile Queen.
