“SAFE BLOWER” SENTENCED

CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 14, In the Supreme Court, Robert Cockburn, known as “the safe blower” was arraigned on 13 charges of breaking and entering at Grey mouth, Christchurch and Dunedin. He was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment and was declared an habitual criminal. Judge Adams said that the prisoner arrived in New Zealand in 1926 apd worked for a time on the West Coast as a miner. He bad shown himself to be an expert safe breaker and thief, and his record was one of unusual skill and activity. Tt was necessary to deal with him in an exemplary wav.
