At tlie wool sales to-day, of the offering of 8457 bales 7972 bales were sold by auction and 317 privately. There was good general competition and the market was firm at the best rates of the week, with a particularly keen demand for finer descriptions. Greasy Merino made 22-*d per lb.

DUNEDIN STOCK MARKET. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, Feb. 12. There was a noticeable advance in the prices obtained for fat cattle, sheep and pigs .at the Burnside sales to-day, while lambs were a shade firmer. 1 Very few prime bullocks were included in the fat cattle yarding, which numbered 200 head. The sale opened firm at an increase of about 10s a head, as compared with last sale’s rates, prime heavy bullocks selling from £2O 15s to £2l 12s 6d, while heavy heifers sold from £ll to £l2 7s 6d, and heavy cows from £l2 to £l4. Prices were equal to about 42s

6d per 1001 b for light cattle, 35s for cows and about 40s for good heifers. In the third to last- race one prime ■lmllock sold at £2l 17s 6d, the balance of the truck averaging £lB a head. Included in he yarding of 1552 fat sheep were about four trucks of extra prime wethers. The balance of the entry was made up of light wethers, extra heavy ewes, and a large proportion of old and light ewes. The sale opened at prices on a par with last week’s rates, but owing to the presence of an outside buyer prices quickly advanced 2s a head for wethers and about Is a head for ewes above the rates obtained at the previous sale. Extra prime wethers sold from 35s to 36s 6d, light sorbs 325, extra heavy ewes from 25s to 27s 6d, and old ewes from 18s to 22s a head. Prices were equivalent to 5-J-d a lb for wethers, 41 d a lb for good young ewes, and 34d a lb for old ewes. A few extra prime animals were in-

cluded in the 450 lambs offered, but the bulk of the yarding comprised - light and also well-grown sorts. Butchers competed keenly for good heavy lambs, and export buyers paid attention to the light sorts. Prices were firm, and good prime lambs sold from 29s 3d to 31s 6d, medium 25s 9cl, and unfinished 21s. These prices were equal to about B§d and 9d a lb. The store cattle entry totalled 220 head .and comprised a large proportion of cows, mixed young cattle, and 20 three-year-old steers. The demand “ was not keen and prices were unchanged. One line of steers sold to £ll a head, one and a half-year steers to £7 ss, and cows from £7 to )£8 10s.

There was a medium yarding of nigs, and the whole entry met with keen competition. About 79 fats and 45 stores were offered. Prime baooners and porkers sold at an advance of about 5s a head. Stores were also firm. The average rate per lb for baconers and porkers was B£d and 9d respectively.

ADDINGTON STOCK MARKET GTIRKIiSTOHUE'CH, Feb. 12. ■ At Addington to-day beef values showed a.decline on late rates of £1 to £1 10s a head. There was only one outside line forward, from South Canterbury. The store sheep sale was firm, and a feature was the first appearance for the season, of North Island sheep. There were 2000 forward from Gisborne. 'Store lambs also sold firmly, with the exception of lighter sorts, whch declined by l s to Is 6d a head. Fat lamb prices were equal to late rates, with a rise of ls to Is 6d for freezing weights. Both baconers and porkers sold at advanced rates. 'Store lambs.—About 10,000 were penned, and there was a ready sale except for lighter lines, which declined Is to Js Gd a head. Fat Lambs. —An entry, of 2550, as against 2830 last week. The quality was much better. There was a rise in (value for freezing weights of ls to Is 6<f a head. Other classes were firm, ( at recent rates. The average .price was B£d to 9d a lb. Values were: Extra prime lambs, to 31s Id; prime lambs, 27s Gd t*o 30s; medium lambs, 24s Gd to 26s Gd; light lambs, 20 s Gd l to 23s Gd. 'Fat sheep. —An entry of ten races. Prices remained firm except for heavy ewes, which declined by Is a head. Values were; Extra prime wethers, to 34s Id; prime wethers, 30s to. 32.5; medium wethers, 2Gs to 295; light wethers, 20s 10d to 255; extra prime ewes, to 2Gs 7d‘; prime ewes, 23s to 255; ordinary ewes, 19s to 225; light ewes, 14s Gd to 17s Gd.

Pat cattle.—An entry of 405 head, and values declined bv' £1 to £1 10s a head for all classes. Best mediumweight prime beef made from 42s to 4os per 1001 b.; good medium-weight, prime beef made from 38s to. 41s per 1001 b; heavy steer beef, 38s to 40s Gd; good cow beef, to 375; secondary, 30s to 335; light and rough, to 275. Values were: Extra heavy prime steers, to £22 12s Gd; heavy prime steers, £l7 10s to, £2O 10s; medium-weight prime steers,l £ls to £18; ordinary steers, £l2 to £l4 10s ; light steers, £io to- £ll 10s; show ! heifer, £l6 7s Gd); extra prime heifers, to £l4 17s Gd; prime heifers, £l2 10s to £l4; ordinary heifers, £lO to £l2; light heifers, £7 to £9 .10s; extra prime cows, to £ls 2s Gd; prime cows, £l2 to £l3 10s; medium cows, £9 to £ll 10s; medium cows, £9 to £ll 10s; light and aged, £6 to £8 10s, Voalers.—A Small entry and a very ‘ firm sale.
