$ j ENGLISH TOURISTS’ VICTORY. ! DEFEAT OF MANAWATU. ! (By Telegraph—Press Association.; PALMERSTON N., Jan. 19. The M.C.C. team defeated Manawatn hv an innings and 269 runs. Manawatu having been dismissed for 67 runs in the first innings. M.C.C. compiled 478. tlie home team being dismissed in their second strike for 133. The match was resumed in bright sunshine, following rain showers overj night. The wicket was in good order. (The not out M.C.C. men. Woolley (55) and Dawson (12) went to the crease and continued to bat brightly. Woolley being particularly aggressive and scoring several sixes. He reached his century after 90 minutes, and then had a'lucky let-off. the fieldsman misjudging the ball from an uppish shot. The fourth century came after 238 minutes’ play. Woolley again had a life, a chance of stumping him not being taken. The partnership was broken immediately, a smart return seeing Dawson run out. He made 46 j outof 159 added for the eighth wicket. Legge followed, and the total had advanced to 418 when Cutler clean howled Woolley. The left-hander made 125 in 217 minutes, and hit eight fours and five sixes. Gilligan was last man in. Legge was dropped in the slips. The scoring was hurried along and* at luncheon was 476 for nine wickets (Gilligan not out 23, Legge not out 42).
