Mrs J. T. Pickett, a former, resident of Hawera, has been spending the past few weeks in Wanganui and Hawera. Miss S. Huston, of Victoria, Australia, is on a visit to her brother, Mr S. Huston, Kakammea.

Elmsign McKenzie has been appointed to assist at the Eltliam S.A. Boys’ Home. She commenced -her duties on Thursday last. 'Mr L. M. Espagne, of Hastings, and formerly of Hawera, was a visitor io the Hawera district during the holidays.

Mr J. B. Murdoch, of Hawera, left by the south express to proceed on a visit to the Egmont Box Company’s mills in the main trunk district. On a. week-endi visit to his son (Mr 3. R. Veitoli), the Hon. W. A. Veitch (Minister of Labour and Transport) arrived in Hawera. oil Saturday evening and left, this morning for Wanganui.

Mrs S. B. llowJett, of Hawera, returned two- days ago from a trip to V\ aitomo and Rotorua with Mrs A. J. Stone Wigg and Mr John Stone Wigg, of South Canterbury. The two latter have now returned south en route for home.

All the Roman Catholic priests of Taranaki will be in Wellington this week for the annual Retreat. A number of them went through by mail train to-day. Fathers Cullen and Foley, of 'Hawera, proceeded by car. Dr. Thorburn B Robertson, professor of biochemistry and general physiciology at Adelaide University, lias died, reports the Australian Press Association from Adelaide. He was a distinguished scholar and research worker. Dr. Robertson was born ai Edinburgh 45 years ago.
