BOWLING.
PARK CLUB. | During the past week-end the Hawera Railway rink successfully defended the brooches from a challenge by the Tradesmens rink. The scores were: Martin Toy (sub. W. Harnett), A. Barnett, Campbell (Railway) 32 v. Cox, Hopkins Villars Dolman (Tradesmen) 11. Last evening over thirty members met at the pavilion to say farewell to Mr. R. Campbell, one of the most popular members of the club and skip of the unbeaten Railway rink. Many complimentary references were made to the sterling qualities of the guest, both as a bowler and as a sport. On behalf of the members the president (Mr. J. J. Goodwin) asked Mr. Campbell to accept a solid brass smoker's comjmnion as a. small token of the esteem in which lie was held by the members, and, at the same time, wished him, Mi s. Campbell and family every success in their new sphere. After drinking to the health of the guest and his family to the accompaniment of musical honours, every member present voiced their sense of loss to the club occasioned by Mr. Campbell’s departure. Mr. Campbell, in reply, thanked the members for the cordial manner in which they had first welcomed him to the club, had given him so many opportunities of visiting other South Taranaki clubs, and, lastly, for the nice' things which all had said about him, the good wishes expressed for both liis and his family’s future welfare, and the magnificent souvenir of his very happy sojourn among them all. lie concluded by saying that he was very sorry to leave both the town and the club, but the call of duty came first, and he would always entertain pleasant memories of Hnwera, and especially the members of the Park Club. Names and handicaps for the club competitions have been pasted up in the pavilion and tickets provided for scores. Owing to the number of games to he played it behoves members to get on with their games right away.
