GANGER CAMPAIGN
MEETING OF CENTRAL COMMITTEE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Dec. 5. At the adjourned meeting of the New Zealand cancer campaign committee yesterday to consider changes in rules suggested by Auckland. Dr. Elliott (President) said that the principle matter at issue was whether there should be a central controlling body or whether each division should have complete autonomy. The parent body in the Olid Country held that there should be central control in such matters to prevent overlapping and' loss of efficiency in research work. The principle of equal representation of divisions was generally approved, and it was decided to recommend the alteration of rules so as to provide that three delegates) should be appointed on the central committee by each division, the Mayors of the four chief cities and the chairman of the four chief Hospital Boards to be ex-officio members, of the committee, deputy delegates to bo appointed when necessary. . . Mr. Shirteliffe asked if, in view of the alteration now recommended to the rules ,the Auckland people would desire complete autonomy. Dr. Elliott said if the representatives would go back to Auckland and explain that the constitution of the central committee had been altered to . meet their desire for equal representation of divisions, Auckland would come into line . If not it would be a great pity, as Auckland would cut itself off from tiie Imperial cancer campaign and lose all the prestige and inspiration to be, derised from association with the movement. , The Auckland delegates said that they would put the considerations before the Auckland people. They felt confident that whatever misunderstanding might, have existed would be cleared l up.
