HAWKE CUP ARRANGEMENTS.
DIREiCT CHALLENGE REJECTED.
As the result of the discussion at the special conference of ’delegates of the various cricket associations of the Dominion in Christchurch last week, a recommendation made by Taranaki that the present preliminary grouping system' be replaced! by a system of direct challenge against the'holder of 'the -cup, was definitely rejected. The other one., that Hawke Cup matches be limited to three days’ duration, was Ky an'oversight'omitted from ' thie ordler paper circulated to all associations' .before the conference, and* was 'fteki oyer. An expression of opinion is jtx> fee. oE tamed from all minor associations oil matter, and if a! majority are in favour the proposal will he adopted. The Taranaki delegate (Mr. T. H. Bate.?) reports that there was little discussion bn these matters, and ha \vhs naturally disappointed. Taranaki was, one of the few associations that supper, ted the change. By inadvertence the .second suggestion was omitted from the order paper, and. as a result, the question limiting the duration of the matches was held over to be submitted to the associations.
